The Ireland-Palestine false equivalence.

It’s hard to tell if the Irish really hate Israel and support the Palestinians as much as I’ve heard. Certainly, I’ve encountered numerous individuals from the Emerald Ilse who do. But also, quite a few who recognise the absurdity and grotesquely ignorant, indulgent hatred of their compatriots with an appropriate sense of shame. The latter seem to be increasing in number. Or maybe, I am just encountering them more and better avoiding the former.
Either way, there are enough fine Hibernians who recognise the false equivalence between Ireland and Palestine for the Irish not yet to be worth giving up on. After all, they voted 12 points for Israel in the Eurovision song contest, which might be a more accurate reflection of national sentiment than the cringeworthy, cosplaying middle class rebels Bambie Thug and Kneecap, and the former socialist–turned–global–corporate–approved–lackey, the imitation statesman, Michael D. Higgins.
For those who might be intelligent and courageous enough to abandon the woke, tribal mentality that curses their nation, here are seven reasons why the equivalence between Irish historic suffering at the hands of the British and the plight of the Palestinian people is false.
-
The British invaded Ireland and conquered the land by force. Israel has never invaded any nation nor started any war, ever.
-
The British Empire was the largest empire in the world. The Jews did not even have a homeland until 1948, let alone an empire.
-
The British conquered and subjugated the Irish to second class citizenship in their own country and in the UK. Israeli–Arabs have equal democratic and legal rights to all other citizens in Israel.
-
The Irish never subjugated the British to dhimmitude. All non–Muslims in Muslim lands were subjected to dhimmitude, a form of second-class citizenship.
-
The Irish were not part of a huge Muslim empire that had conquered and enslaved millions of people for centuries.
-
The Irish never aimed to annihilate the British state. This is the stated aim of Hamas and many other Palestinian terroristic organisations.
-
The Irish never aimed to commit genocide against the British, nor did the Irish support and send armies to Hitler during the Second World War (despite failing to oppose him).
There are others. But that’s quite enough for today.
